The Water Industry Commission for Scotland Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs, Katherine Russell, has been appointed as a Vice President of the Network of European Water Sector Regulators (WAREG).
WAREG was founded in 2014 in order to promote Europe-wide coordination between water service regulatory authorities, with the primary aim of promoting closer co-operation amongst its members. The network brings together water sector regulators from across Europe to exchange knowledge and skills and to promote best-practice and stable regulation of the water sector at a European level. WAREG membership currently consists of 18 regulators.
WAREG is aiming to become a European benchmark for water regulation where water service regulatory models can be compared and contrasted.
Katherine Russell commented:
“I am proud to have been selected to act as a Vice President of such an exciting and innovative organisation. I am looking forward to working closely with WAREG members to ensure that we keep building on the excellent work to date”.
WICS described the appointment as representing a positive step towards achieving the Scottish Government’s Hydro Nation Initiative, which aims to establish Scotland as a Hydro Nation – an international leader in water management and governance.
The appointment was made during the XVth IWRA World Water Congress, which took place in Edinburgh, Scotland this week.
