The House of Commons Treasury Select Committee will hold a one-off session on infrastructure to hear oral evidence today from the Infrastructure Projects Authority and the National Infrastructure Commission.

There are no terms of reference for the inquiry as it is a stand alone session to scrutinise the views of both organisations.
Sir John Armitt CBE Chair and James Heath Chief Executive Officer at the National Infrastructure Commission, together with Nick Smallwood, Chief Executive Officer at Infrastructure and Projects Authority will give evidence to the MPs on the Committee in a session which runs from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Paul Sheffield, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers will also be in attendance to present its views.
The evidence session will explore their views on the Government’s plans to boost the economy through infrastructure spending, including:
- whether the right projects are being pursued
- how planning for infrastructure projects could be improved
- whether the UK has sufficient skills to carry out all of its infrastructure development plans
- whether money spent on maintaining existing infrastructure is just as important as the money spent on new infrastructure.
The House of Commons Treasury Select Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of HM Treasury, HM Revenue & Customs, and associated public bodies, including the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority.
