The Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) has agreed a request by Thames Water request to delay Teddington Direct River Abstraction gate four submission.

The water company wrote to RAPID on 3 September 2026 requesting to move the Teddington Direct River Abstraction (TDRA) gate four submission date to 1 June 2027.
The request followed the rescheduling of TDRA's Development Consent Order (DCO) submission to 6 April 2027.
Thanes Water told RAPID the request for additional time for gate four would allow alignment of the gate four submission with the revised Development Consent Order (DCO) programme and the planned DCO submission date of 6 April 2027.
Replying to the company on 29 September, RAPID told the utility it considered the request to be reasonable and said Thames shouuld use the additional time to ensure that the gate four submission met regulators' expectations and provided “a complete and high-quality assessment of the solution's readiness to proceed.”
RAPID also noted that the revised DCO programme reflects further design development informed by technical information and stakeholder feedback, and that the updated programme is
intended to improve the deliverability and maturity of the scheme.
“We are pleased to note that Thames Water remains committed to progressing the scheme
and will continue to engage with RAPID through the established project checkpoint process. “ RAPID’s letter concludes.
