Environment Secretary Owen Paterson has written today to water companies to ensure customers get the best possible deal from the water sector and urging them to keep prices down.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has launched a new consultation on its plans to recover a further £18 million in licence fees from the water companies in England and Wales via a one-off charge to cover the costs of delivering the 2014 Price Review.

 

Following an analysis of the water companies' PR14 quality assurance processes for data submissions for their business plans, Ofwat has described them as “not fit for purpose” and wants them to assess the effectiveness of their processes “as a matter of urgency.”

The European Commission is simplifying – and even withdrawing – EU rules and regulations.

Severn Trent Water Ltd pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates’ Court on Friday last week to one charge relating to a breach of their environmental permit conditions. The company was fined £30,000 and ordered to pay £2,046.66 in costs.
