Ofwat consults on Wholesale Retail Code

Water industry regulator Ofwat has launched a new consultation on the Wholesale Retail Code (WRC) which plays a key role in the regulatory framework for the new business retail market which opens next year.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has issued its conclusions and guidance for direction to supply arrangements in the business retail market.

Ofwat has today published a consultation on draft determinations for three water companies, based on their performance against commitments in their business plans for 2015-16 - a £18.8m reward for Severn Trent and £0.5m reward for Anglian, and a £1.7m penalty for South West Water.

The Environment Agency has updated its guidance setting out national policy and the regulatory framework for managing water resources.

The House of Lords' EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee has launched a short inquiry on environment and climate change policy after Brexit.

The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has warned today that customers will end up disappointed if household water competition goes ahead based on an overly optimistic review by Ofwat.

Kent-based firm Invicta Water Ltd has applied to Ofwat for a water supply licence and sewerage licence ahead of the business retail market in England opening for competition in April 2017.

A new consultation launched by Ofwat on setting licence fees in the new retail market has flagged up the potential for higher costs and uncertainties surrounding the early stages of the competitive market which opens in April 2017.

With less than six months to go until the opening of the non-household water market in England, fewer than one in ten business customers may be aware they will soon be able to switch supplier, according to new research by the Consumer Council for Water (CCWater).

Ofwat has contrasted competitive retail markets where there has been radical change, with innovation, and technology-led advances in customer service with the water sector, describing the possibilities offered by advances in technology as having “largely been left unfulfilled.”

Seven water companies have passed MOSL’s Market Entry Acceptance Testing (MEAT), with the help of Echo Managed Services’ RapidXtra software.

Ofwat has launched a short consultation on its proposal for a revised application process for Water Supply and Sewerage Licences (WSSL).
