The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) has outlined its concern over the Government’s plans to increase the amount of permitted development for extensions, saying it puts more properties at risk of surface water flooding.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has made substantial concessions to the water companies with its latest revised consultation on proposals for the “Section 13” licence change.

Northern Ireland Water will invest £324 million on “prioritised and targeted” areas to deliver infrastructure improvements, one of the key features of the price control determination for the period 2013-15, published by the Utility Regulator (UR) today.

Water minister Richard Benyon has said the Government is “open to considering” a regulated asset model, similar to that of the UK water industry, to fund flood defences, in a Defra questions session in the House of Commons on Thursday.

The Welsh Assembly has launched a new consultation on its Sustainable Development Bill White paper.

 

The response to the Autumn Statement has been, unsurprisingly, a mixed bag, divided between the positive reaction from the engineering community and the disgruntled green lobby.

Water UK, the representative body for UK water companies, has said too much pressure would be placed on Northern Ireland Water to make proposed efficiencies, in its response to the Utility Regulator’s draft determination of the price control 2013-2015 (PC13).

Companies reject Ofwat’s licence changes

 

Water UK, the body which represents the UK water industry, has confirmed that many water companies have been unable to accept Ofwat’s controversial proposals for licence modifications.

 

New Government Guidance will require water industry regulator Ofwat to regularly review and report on the issue of cyclical investment in the water sector and whether its regulatory framework is having an impact on the profile of investment in the water and sewerage sector.
