Water UK questions Ofwat approach to PR09

Water UK, the body that represents all UK water and wastewater service suppliers,has responded to Ofwat's consultation 'Setting water price limits for 2010-2015 - framework and approach' on the 2009 water price review (PR09) by questioning whether it is enough to meet the challenges now facing the industry.

Allocating the increased funding for flood risk management was among the topics for discussion yesterday when the Environment Agency Board met in Bristol .
Defra has launched the Government’s new water strategy to help secure and maintain water supplies, reduce water pollution and tackle surface water flooding.
Construction and maintenance companies who work in or near watercourses are being reminded today  that pollution incidents are avoidable by careful planning. The call comes as new pollution prevention guidelines are published by the Environment Agency.

The Water Commission Industry for Scotland (WICS) today signalled the start of the countdown to competition in Scottish water.

Ofwat has issued guidance on setting leakage targets to the water and sewerage companies.

In an interview with the BBC the ex-chairman of Scottish Chairman Alan Alexander has urged ministers to consider mutualising the publicly-owned utility.

A second volume of guidance on River Basin Management Planning has been  published by Defra and the Welsh Assembly Government for consultation.

The Environment Agency has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a boost in funding for its work programme for 2008/09.

A Newcastle company was fined £15,000 at Newcastle Upon Tyne Magistrates Court last week for a pollution offence at Dewley Burn.
