The Welsh Assembly has set out its Strategic Outline Programme and preferred option for the future management of Internal Drainage Boards in Wales.

The Open Water Programme has today launched the first version of the consultation its proposed Market Blueprint for retail competition in water and sewerage services.

Credit ratings agency Moody's has said that Ofwat’s changes to the price review process announced last week will be credit negative for the UK water sector and put highly leveraged companies like Anglian Water Services, Thames Water, Yorkshire Water Services Ltd and Southern Water under negative ratings pressure.

Ofwat changes price review process

Following submission of the water companies’ Business Plans on 2nd December, water industry regulator Ofwat has announced that it is making changes to its plan for PR14 delivery.

Ofwat has announced the appointment of Richard Khaldi as Senior Director – Customers and Casework after six years at the Water Industry Commission for Scotland where he was Head of Competition overseeing the regulation and management of the Scottish non-household retail market.

The way water is taken from rivers and groundwater is set to be modernised following the launch of a new consultation on reforms to its licence system, Environment Minister Dan Rogerson announced today.

Worcester Magistrates’ Court has ordered A&A Rodenhurst Ltd of Wadborough to pay £57,000 in fines and costs for the repeated pollution of a local watercourse bordering their premises at Wadborough Park Farm, Worcestershire.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has indicated its initial thoughts on the AMP6 Business Plans submitted by the water companies setting out their proposed investment programmes for 2015-2020.

Cathryn Ross, chief executive of Ofwat has described the water industry regulator as “slightly nervous” about the requirement in the Water Bill for it to act “in accordance” with the strategic policy steer which Defra is providing.

Water industry regulator Ofwat has published details of the water companies AMP6 business plans for the services they plan to deliver for 2015-20 as part of the price review process.

Leading NGO WWF is warning that a third of England’s rivers are in danger of long term damage that could ruin the country’s environment, landscapes and wildlife if new legislation comes into force without important safeguards in place.

 

 

The Water Bill, which was debated at its second reading in the House of Commons yesterday, has cleared its first parliamentary hurdle with Labour's support.
