Bristol Water to launch mobile phone bill payment capability in 2015

Bristol Water has announced that it will launch a new service enabling its customers to pay their bills via mobile phone in 2015.

The water company is partnering with UK payments provider Zapp to bring mobile payments to customers.

Bristol Water said that via its billing company Bristol Wessex Billing Services Ltd, Zapp will enable it to offer a secure, quick and simple way for customers to pay their water bill using just their mobile device and their existing bank account. Its launch is planned in the front half of 2015.

Zapp enables real-time payments on people’s mobile phones through their existing mobile banking application allowing secure payments to happen between consumers and merchants. The list of banks backing Zapp so far includes HSBC, first direct, Nationwide, Santander and Metro Bank – covering 18 million UK bank accounts.
