United Utilities has successfully installed Europe’s largest valve at its Bromborough Wastewater Treatment Works to protect homes and businesses from the risk of tidal flooding.

Plans to reduce tidal flooding in the Strand area of Cardigan, West Wales, have reached a significant milestone with the appointment of specialist consultancy firm Binnies to drive the Detailed Design Phase of the Cardigan Tidal Flood Scheme.

The Environment Agency has said it will publish an updated Thames Estuary 2100 Plan in May 2023, following the conclusion of a consultation on its proposals which ran from 26 September to 20 November in 2022.

The Environment Agency’s new tidal flood defence barrier for Ipswich has been officially opened by Floods Minister, Dr Thérèse Coffey, ensuring more than 1,600 homes and 400 businesses are better protected from flooding and the impacts of climate change over the course of the next century.

The Environment Agency (EA) is progressing work on the £4 million Arundel tidal flood defence scheme - the scheme has now been accelerated to reduce the risk of flooding and erosion to properties in Arundel as quickly as possible. 

Floods Minister Thérèse Coffey has marked the start of works on the £100 million Boston Barrier flood defence, breaking ground on an Environment Agency scheme that will protect 14,000 homes and businesses from tidal flooding.

Work has started on the £38.3 million tidal barrier that will help protect Ipswich from future storms.
