CIRIA launches survey on SuDS construction guidance

CIRIA, the construction industry research and information association, is seeking views from contractors and other stakeholders with direct experience of constructing Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).

CIRIA is keen to learn about practitioners’ hands-on experience in constructing SuDS, including problems encountered and how they were resolved, how potential problems were avoided and any examples of good practice that you may know.

The results of the survey will be incorporated into CIRIA's research project on SuDS construction guidance (RP1028) to help reduce the risks of faults during construction that can lead to poor performance. It will cover the construction process from its initial planning stages, through to the completion of all phases. The guidance is aimed at improving the construction and ultimately the performance of SuDS.

The information will be used to help CIRIA scope and plan the content of the guidance, and the way in which it can be presented most effectively to end users.

Introducing the survey, CIRIA said the wider uptake of SuDS is dependent on confidence that they can perform as specified and anticipated. A critical factor is that they are constructed correctly - failures during the construction stage of any project can undermine confidence in future implementation, especially for SuDS.

The deadline for responses is Friday 22 January 2016. Click here to access the survey online
