ICE puts infrastructure challenges on the agenda at party conferences

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is joining forces with engineering and construction bodies again to represent industry at the party conferences this September and October.

ICE is teaming up with the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACE), Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and Construction Products Association (CPA) to form the ‘Infrastructure Alliance’ group to make the case for investing in infrastructure.

The ‘Infrastructure Alliance’ group, also working with Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), will be holding a panel discussion at each main party conference, with the overarching theme of ‘Building Britain’s Infrastructure: a strategy for delivery’. The events will focus on how to ensure delivery of the pipeline of projects outlined in the National Infrastructure Plan and how to remove barriers to investment.

High profile speakers from all parties are taking part in these debates including; Lorely Burt MP for the Liberal Democrats; Lord Adonis and Chi Onwurah MP for Labour; and Nadhim Zahawi MP for the Conservatives. They’ll address audiences of parliamentarians, engineering industry representatives, media, policy and public affairs professionals. Senior representatives from the Alliance including ICE Director General Nick Baveystock will also speak at the debates.

Nick Baveystock, said:

“The party conference season provides an opportunity to increase awareness, engage and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including MPs, journalists, business groups and key policy makers; making it an important part of ICE’s public voice programme. I am pleased to see this group of influential bodies unite again in bringing together all the key players and generating debate around the most pressing issues facing our industry”.
