lake  trees 1The government has announced that those that pollute the environment will face unlimited financial penalties under new legislation.

LONDON - CITY HALLFormer Ofwat Chief Cathryn Ross, now interim CEO at Thames Water, appeared before the London Assembly Environment Committee today for the first of two meetings investigating London’s waters, looking at pollution, the long-term water supply available in London and any risks associated with the two issues.

THAMES WATER LOGOThames Water’s interim co-CEO, Cathryn Ross has said the water company is “deeply sorry for the entirely unacceptable pollution incident into the Gatwick Stream and River Mole six years ago” which saw Thames yesterday fined £3,334,000 at Lewes Crown Court.

THAMES WATER HQ READINGThames Water has been fined £3.34 million in court after millions of litres of raw sewage flooded two rivers near Gatwick. In addition to the £3.34 million fine, the judge ordered Thames Water to pay the Environment Agency’s costs of £128,961.05.
