New global bio-based innovations event to scale up market demand

A new global tradeshow for professionals working in bio-based and biodegradable industries will be launched in July to scale up market demand for bio-based products.

The Bio-Based Innovations Expo 2017 will take place on 5-6 July at the NEC in Birmingham, UK, with the aim of helping exhibitors and attendees improve the quality and performance of bio-based and biodegradable products and develop closer collaboration between government and industry to grow the global bio-economy.

The business and environmental benefits of building up bio-based markets are clear and the Bio-Based Innovations Expo 2017 will showcase some of the most progressive technologies and provide a learning platform to advance innovations in the industry. The event will connect over 1,200 innovators, investors and manufacturers to help grow and progress the bio-based economy, which is worth £2 trillion in the EU alone.

Bio-based resources, which include sugar and starch-based crops, wood, algae, sewage and cellulose, currently often go to waste, leading many businesses to rethink which raw materials go into their products, packaging and processes. Increasing concern about plastic pollution of our oceans, regulatory pressure to improve the environmental performance of plastics, and research and development into bio-based plastic alternatives are all contributing to the vision of a rapidly growing bio-economy.

The Bio-Based Innovations Expo has partnered with and will be co-located with UK AD & Biogas and World Biogas Expo 2017, the world’s leading tradeshow for the UK and global biogas industries, and Wastewater & Sewage Treatment Expo 2017. Attendees will have unlimited access to all sessions and networking areas across all three events, featuring over 7,000 visitors and 300 exhibitors in total.

The programme for the event is being put together by the three expo content partners, the Bio-based and Biodegradable Industries Association (BBIA), the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre, and the Knowledge Transfer Network. The programme will focus on scaling up market demand, improving quality and performance of bio-based products, and collaborating with government to grow the global bio-economy.

BBIA Managing Director David Newman said:

“The potential for bio-based solutions to contribute to the global economy is huge. We are pleased to be supporting the Bio-Based Innovations Expo as uniting those working in the biodegradable and bio-based industries to open up opportunities in the green economy market is our mission.”

Newman is encouraging members from the whole bio-based value chain to join the event:

“To make real impact and  scale up market demand, we encourage not only the innovators and producers of bio-based products to join us, but also downstream users of materials to understand the market alternatives that are available.”
