Anglian Water is getting work underway with two separate schemes to alleviate flooding in the region.
Residents on a flood-prone street in Northampton will benefit from a £450,000 project to install a large storm water storage pipe as part of a programme of millions of pounds of on-going investments in the region’s sewer network.
The storage tank itself will hold thousands of litres of storm water, which previously ran off of surrounding roofs and hard surfaces, inundating drains and causing flooding to some homes nearby. The only suitable location to accommodate such a large storage pipe is underneath the playing field of Bridgewater Primary School.
Anglian Water is also starting work on a half a million pound scheme to alleviate flooding in Winterton to deal with the historical issue of flooding in the area.
Nik Shelton, Anglian Water spokesperson, said:
“Flooding can cause misery for residents. This area has been flooded in the past and fixing the problem is a priority for Anglian Water. “
“This investment, and the small amount of disruption caused during the work, will ensure several homes in the areas are no longer at risk of suffering devastating flooding - giving them peace of mind for the future.”
