Sutton and East Surrey Water starts £1.3m mains replacement scheme

Sutton and East Surrey Water is starting work this week on a  £1.3 million scheme to replace ageing water mains in South Croydon.

The work will replace 4600 metres of ageing cast-iron water mains, some of which are more than 80 years old.

David Plumadore, Project Engineering Technician for Sutton and East Surrey Water explained:

“Existing water mains in the area are reaching the end of their useful lifespan and we need to carry out this replacement work now to reduce the risk of mains failures and assure the security of water supply for current customers and generations to come.”

The old three and four-inch mains, some dating back to 1934, will be replaced with a high-performance polyethylene main.

SES Water are carrying out the improvement work with its construction partner Clancy Docwra.  The overall project is due for completion early next year.
