NI Water starts £4m water mains upgrade

NI Water is beginning a major £4m water mains improvement programme for Ballymena and Ballyclare.

The work will get underway in the Killylane area of Ballyclare and will continue for approximately 6 months.  Work will continue in the Ballykeel area of Ballymena in August 2015 and is expected to continue for approximately 6 months.

The upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

The rehabilitation work is being carried out by NI Water ‘s contractor Farrans Construction.

The scheme is among an number of water mains rehabilitation and other projects being carried out by NI Water.

Last week contractor Quinn Automatic Ltd completed a £210,000 flood alleviation scheme for the water company in an area in Carrickfergus which has been affected by flooding in the past by improving the local sewerage infrastructure as well as building a new outfall pipe.
