Wessex Water wins top safety awards for 2nd consecutive year

Wessex Water has received two international health and safety awards from the British Safety Council including the ‘Power and Utilities’ sector award for the second consecutive year.
Charles Keyte, a health and safety adviser at Wessex Water, said:

“This achievement demonstrates how we effectively maintain the health, safety and well-being of our workforce who can face multiple hazards due to the nature of the work we do.”

It is now the fifth year that Wessex Water has been recognised by the British Safety Council for its commitment to preventing workplace injuries and ill health.

Neal Stone, acting chief executive of the British Safety Council, said:

“Wessex Water is commended for ensuring the health and safety of its own workforce and those of its contractors. This success is a real team effort.”

Charles Keyte added:

“The sector awards have only been running for two years, so to have won it on both occasions against other international utility companies is a great reflection of our ongoing dedication to health and safety and the wellbeing of our employees.”

Wessex Water’s engineering and construction department was also commended for its continuous improvement in accident prevention at the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) awards.

RoSPA praised the company for their ‘Make It Right’ initiative which promotes and develops an excellent health and safety culture among staff.

Stephen Penn, compliance manager at Wessex Water, commented:

“The award demonstrates that our commitment to health and safety is worthy of recognition from a world renowned organisation.”
