Energetics has welcomed the first five trainees onto its new multi-utilities apprenticeship scheme – who will spend the next three years developing vocational skills and studying for industry-recognised qualifications in gas, water and electricity utilities.
“Training and development are key focus areas for Energetics and, as we continue to grow, we need more skilled staff coming through the ranks,” Energetics’ Director Steve Morris explained. “Ordinarily, apprentices train in one utility but, as Energetics is a multi-utility services provider, our scheme has been designed to prepare them for working at entry level in all three.”
Energetics teamed up with Utility Construction Training to develop the apprenticeship, which will be run in Glasgow initially, before being rolled out to the company’s ten locations across the UK. Energetics also worked with Skills Development Scotland, Glasgow City Council, South Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Councils to promote the scheme.
The company is undergoing a period of significant growth, which has seen both the number and size of its contracts increase over the past two years.
Morris said that creating jobs and training opportunities for people local to the company’s offices and depots was at the heart of its expansion strategy. Last year, Energetics staff numbers rose from 220 to 320 and, with more locations opening all the time, we expect to employ 500 people by the end of 2015 and 700 by 2017.
Established in 2006, Energetics Networked Energy (Energetics) is an independent multi-connection company, offering a range of design and build services for electricity, gas, water and telecommunications, along with ongoing operation and maintenance of networks.
Energetics Design & Build specialises in the design and installation of multi-utility infrastructure for residential, industrial and commercial developments, while Energetics Electricity and Energetics Gas adopt, own and operate electricity and gas networks throughout the UK.
The company currently employs 400 staff, based in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Warrington, Coleshill, Bristol, Slough and Barnsley.
