Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is to invest £2.7 million in a major project which will improve the bathing water quality in the Mumbles area of Swansea.
The project by the not-for-profit company will bring long term benefits by increasing capacity on the waste water network. This in turn will improve its performance, particularly during wet weather, and help reduce the risk of potential bursts, flooding and pollution.
The work is scheduled to commence at the end of October 2015 and will aim to be completed in summer 2016.
Welsh Water is planning to hold an information event on the 19th November to explain the next phase of the scheme in more detail.
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s Capital Delivery Manager, Lee O’Brien said:
“We are committed to delivering a first class wastewater network to our customers; improving our services to protect the environment and our investment here reflects this. We will be liaising with local residents and have met with the Mumbles Trade Association to ensure they are aware of our plans at every step of the project.”
Welsh Water invested £1.5 billion in its water and sewerage network between 2010 and 2015 and is set to invest a further £1.7 billion between 2015 – 2020.
