Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions (BBUS), one of the UK’s leading utility solutions providers, has received CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) certification from Achilles, the supply chain risk management group, as part of their carbonReduction programme.
The certification demonstrates that BBUS has robust carbon measurement processes in place, and meets the requirements of ISO 14064-1, the internationally recognised standard for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions.
To receive the accreditation BBUS compiled an extensive report on all its operational greenhouse gas emissions. The process is extremely rigorous and Achilles performed several site visits prior to awarding BBUS certification. Operational input was also required to assure assessors that procedures are consistently implemented throughout the organisation and on site.
CEMARS certification is a significant step for BBUS in demonstrating to its clients that reducing carbon footprint is foremost on the company agenda. With the business currently putting processes in place that will allow it to realise the Balfour Beatty 2020 Vision for Sustainability, the company said that the data collected for the CEMARS scheme will provide a valuable benchmark against which to gauge progress.
Andrew Edlin, Environment Manager, BBUS, commented:
‘This certification is evidence that BBUS is committed to serving the sustainability needs of its clients. In addition, it shows that the business is talking the crucial first steps towards its 2020 Vision for Sustainability, with carbon reduction an essential part of our business plan.’
