South East Water’s website can now talk to customers in more than 60 different languages, to assist those with additional needs or where English is not their first language.
The website - southeastwater.co.uk - is also using dyslexia software, an interactive dictionary, and an electronic magnifying glass, alongside the translation tool which can instantly convert English into foreign text and then read it aloud if required.
Commenting on the new service, Steve George, the company’s Customer Services Director, said:
“We want to ensure our services are easy to access by all of our customers, and our investment in this new software underlines our commitment to providing a five out of five service to everyone, including customers where English is not their first language, or who may have additional needs.”
“The translation tool is particularly useful for customers wishing to open an account with us and pay their water bills online. Language is now no barrier to that process.”
“The ability to change the size and type of the font and even the entire colour scheme of the website to suit their personal preferences and requirements will prove a boon to customers with dyslexia or who may have difficulty reading small print.”
The new software called Recite Me, works on all computer platforms including desktop, tablet and mobile and claims translation accuracy of 96 per cent.
