Portsmouth Water: customer bills remain the lowest in England and Wales

Portsmouth Water has limited the increase to its bills for the period 2017/18 to 1.8% (effective from 1st July) - below the rate of inflation.

The average household water bill for 2017/18 will be £100 - considerably lower than any other water company with the average household water bill for England and Wales being £185.

As a result customers will continue to benefit from having the lowest water bills in England and Wales.

During the period 2015 to 2020 the water company said it will be investing in its network by increasing capital spending by 20%.

We also understand the current pressures on family incomes especially for the more vulnerable in our society. In 2016 Portsmouth Water introduce its helping hand tariff specifically designed to help households with an overall income of less than Government’s low income threshold (currently £16,105). This caps the water bill at a minimum charge - from 1st July this will be £76.86. So far just under 2,000 customers have taken advantage of the tariff.
