The warm weather saw demand for water in Yorkshire increase by 125 million litres each day over last weekend - 15% more water than average according to Yorkshire Water, which supplies 1.3 billion litres of water to households across the region every day.
Neil Dewis, head of water production at the utility, which supplies 1.3 billion litres of water to households across the region every day, commented:
“We saw a huge spike in demand last weekend which has continued into the start of this week, presumably as people filled pools in their gardens and took extra showers due to the lovely weather.
“Water stocks are slightly lower than we would expect at this time of year at around 75%, but that’s not surprising given the hot, dry weather we’ve been experiencing."
The water company is asking customers to think carefully about how they use water.
