Shareholders in Kelda Group, owners of Yorkshire Water, are considering whether to put their stakes in the utility up for sale, according to a report in yesterday’s Sunday Times newspaper.
The article says that private equity fund Corsair Capital and Deutsche Bank, who own 30.3% and 23.4% respectively, are contemplating the sale of their shares for what could be up to $3 billion.
The article is suggesting that the shareholders are considering the potential sale of their stakes following Ofwat’s indication that the upcoming Price Review in 2019 would see a “clampdown on profits”
The report also says that Infracapital, the European infrastructure equity arm of M&G Ltd, Prudential Plc's European investment management division, has already sold its own 10% stake, according to industry sources.
Three weeks ago reports in the local press said that Kelda Group are also planning to exit the retail business market with the sale of Yorkshire Water Business Services and Three Sixty non-household retail businesses.
