Severn Trent Water has had to bring in 120,000 litres of free bottled water for customers in the Telford area and set up a water bowser as a result of a water pipe burst yesterday.
The water company is currently continuing work to repair the pipe which burst in Telford early on Sunday morning. However, poor weather conditions through the night have made the repair work difficult and Severn Trent is having to work closely with utility Cadent to ensure it can repair the water pipe safely without causing any damage to a nearby gas pipe.
The 21-inch pipe was left with a 7ft hole when it burst. Severn Trent said the repair has been particularly tricky as it is very deep underground – the utility has also had to cut back nearby trees before digging could start.
A specialist piece of equipment is currently making its way to Shropshire with a police escort from Derby to help with repairs. The southbound slip road from the A442 Queensway to the A442 Brockton Way has had to be closed to allow the engineers to work safely.
The water company is also using 25 tankers to inject water directly into the network.
