Yorkshire Water to start work on £3.8m pipeline project

Yorkshire Water have started preparations for a £3.8 million project to lay a new pipeline from Hillam Waste water Treatment Works (WwTW) to its Sutton WwTW.

The work is part of a wider programme of environmental improvement schemes to improve the quality of water that is discharged from some of the company’s waste water treatment works.

In its present form, the works at Hillam will not meet the new improved water quality standards so flows will be transferred directly from Hillam to Sutton WwTW for treatment, via a new pipeline.

Yorkshire Water will also build some additional storage and a new sewage pumping station (SPS), after which the works at Hillam will eventually be decommissioned.

Engineering specialists, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), will take around a year to complete the scheme.

Phase one is to construct the new SPS and additional storage in the field behind the current treatment works. Phase two, in the new year, will be to lay the new pipeline to Sutton WwTW which is all in private land and fields. Phase three will be to decommission the works.
