Bristol Water has launched a new consultation on its proposals for the design of a revised charging framework for new connection services.
The New Connections Charging Consultation document is an opportunity for our existing and future customers to give Bristol Water feedback on the for new connections to be implemented in April 2018.
The consultation follows on from a second Market Engagement Day held by the water company at the start of November for developers and providers of new connection services.
We held a further Market Engagement Day on 1 November 2017 to discuss our proposals with Developers and Self Lay Providers.
Bristol Water is proposing to split the charges into three different categories:
- Site – Specific
- Network Reinforcement Works
- Resources and Treatment
One of the issues where the water company is particularly interested in receiving comments whether it should vary infrastructure charges according to the water efficiency and sustainability of the development. The Ofwat principles published by the water regulator state that the new charges should send environmental signals to developers.
Moving to the new charging mechanism will provide clearer, predictable, transparent and stable charges.
Bristol Water said that the new charging mechanism would allow developers to have more certainty of costs to enable them to make an informed choice at the early land purchase stage, as well as benefitting from potentially faster connections.
