Water retailer Business Stream has agreed a new partnership with independent, not-for-profit organisation Waterwise to help promote the importance of water efficiency and conservation to business customers across the UK.
The Edinburgh-based organisation is the first retailer to partner with Waterwise and become one of its Affiliates. Waterwise already works with a number of water wholesalers in England. Through the partnership, Business Stream will work alongside Waterwise and its partners, helping to raise awareness with business customers and to drive innovation and best practice.
Waterwise, set up to promote the importance of water efficiency and conservation, has been looking to further expand its partnership programme. It identified Business Stream as an ideal retailer to work with based on the company’s impressive track record in water efficiency.
Since retail competition was introduced in Scotland in 2008, Business Stream has helped businesses and public sector organisations to conserve more than 24 billion litres of water, delivering over £53 million in water efficiency savings and £7 million in energy efficiency savings.
Nicci Russell, Managing Director at Waterwise, said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Business Stream as our first retailer Affiliate, having already recognised the company’s commitment to water efficiency and their insight and experience.
“We look forward to supporting and challenging Business Stream and others on water efficiency as we continue to raise the profile on water efficiency with business customers. Using water wisely is a win-win for customers and the environment and should be core to all participants operating in the new retail market.”
Jo Dow, Chief Executive at Business Stream, said the partnership further strengthens the firm’s commitment to promoting water efficiency and helping our customers across the UK to use less water. “We look forward to sharing our insight and experience from the last ten years and to working with Waterwise and their partners to drive ambition and innovation in this space.” she added.
Business Stream, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Scottish Water with its own board and independent management team, is the largest operator in the Scottish non-domestic water market. Its most recent profit before tax was £21.8 million from revenue of £281 million.
Headquartered in Edinburgh, it also has offices in Glasgow and Worthing - Business Stream acquired the non-household customer base of Southern Water in preparation for the English retail water market, which opened in April 2017. The acquisition doubled Business Stream’s customer base overnight, making it one of the largest retail water suppliers in the UK.
