Data experts welcome at Yorkshire Water event in Leeds

Data experts across Leeds and West Yorkshire are being invited to attend Yorkshire Water’s launch event this Friday as it gears up towards releasing all non-commercially sensitive operational data by 2020.

WaterData2018The #WaterData2018 event kicks off the first event in the water sector to commit to an 'open by default' data approach - Yorkshire Water has partnered with the Open Data Institute (ODI) Leeds to make it happen. The event coincides with the company publishing its data set for leakage over the past year on the Data Mill North.

Yorkshire Water Director of Communications Richard Emmott, Director of Asset Management, Nevil Muncaster and Rob Krempic, Manager of Asset Analytics will be speaking, as the firm gives the public a first look at the leakage data and explains its priorities for future data releases.

Attendees are invited to register their interest for the event, which starts at 9am at Munroe House, Leeds (next to the BBC building) and will last until lunchtime.

The event is a prelude to a Hackathon event which is happening on May 18th and 19th and speakers talk during the ODI Leeds Digital Festival next month.

Yorkshire Water are actively inviting the best tech minds in the county to participate in the May Hackathon, which is hoped will provide insight, innovation and fresh ideas that could aid quicker detection and leakage resolution in the region.

Yorkshire Water has committed to cut leakage by 40 per cent and sewer flooding by 70 per cent as it aims to become a leading performer in the sector.
