Anglian Water has welcomed three new colleges to their skills programme in collaboration with the company’s twelve alliance partners, providing employer-supported multi-skill construction courses and boosting career opportunities in construction.
West Suffolk College, Milton Keynes College and Grimsby Institute have been selected as part of an ambitious talent expansion programme. The initiative has already been successfully piloted through the College of West Anglia at Wisbech in support of an area of social need and to raise career aspirations. The water company said that through this success it is dedicated to creating more employment opportunities in other parts of the region.
The innovative pre-apprenticeship programme has been designed with the specific aim of attracting new talent into the utility sector and enabling students to go on to work for one of the alliance companies as an apprentice. The majority of study in the year-long course will be delivered by college tutors through practical and theory-based sessions.
Jason Tucker, Anglian Water’s Director of Strategic Delivery & Commercial, said:
“We are focussed on working with colleges in our region that are committed to building partnerships with industry. These establishments will create opportunities for people by training and developing them with the vital skills and behaviours needed to meet our current and future skills shortages.”
In order to develop skills to the highest level, industry specialists from the Alliances will sponsor the programme “hands-on”, providing specialist plant, materials, work experience and lectures from the very first day. A work placement opportunity will also be provided with one of the companies involved and all students who successfully complete the Level 2 course in “Construction Operations” will be guaranteed an interview for an apprenticeship with Anglian Water and its 12 alliance partners.
HUBER Technology UK & Ireland are inviting people to register for their March webinar where they will be providing information about HUBER water intake screens for municipal and industrial applications.
