Anglian Water invest £5.4 million to support future growth around Scunthorpe

Anglian Water will begin the installation of a brand new water main in Scunthorpe next Monday to support the growth of the new Lincolnshire Lakes development.

The new mains pipe, a result of a £5.4m investment by the water company, will ensure a resilient water supply for the future amid increasing demand, keeping taps running in Scunthorpe for years to come.

AW PIPELINE SCHEMES

The work will see over 13km of new pipe laid in the area, with work expected to be completed by July 2020, and will see customer impact kept to a minimum wherever possible through the drilling of pipework under major roads in the area.

David Hartley, Anglian Water spokesperson, said:

"Operating in one of the fastest growing areas in the UK, this scheme will help to support future growth, ensuring we can maintain current water pressure to the area as the population grows in the Lincolnshire Lakes.

"This development is a significant one within the area of Scunthorpe and this work is just another example of our commitment to making sure that our network is fit to meet the demands of a growing population.”

The water company is also getting ready to install a new £900,000 water main in Scartho, Grimbsy at the start of next week - the new mains pipe reinforcement will reinforce the existing water network.

Last week Anglian Water began a £910,000 project to install 2.4kilometres of new water main in Pettaugh, Ipswich to supplement the existing supply; ensuring current pressures are maintained as demand grows in the area.

Anglian Water is spending £33 million this year alone on schemes to refurbish and renew parts of its extensive 37,000km network.
