Yorkshire Water has begun work on a new £1.8m water pipe between Watersheddles reservoir and Oldfield Water Treatment Works.
The 4km pipe will replace the one in situ which was prone to bursting.
Work on the scheme has already begun - the second phase will begin on February 3rd, followed by the third and final phase which will take eight weeks.
Yorkshire Water Project Manager John Shanks said the project will add greater resilience to the network.
