NI Water is getting ready to start work on a £4 million programme of work to replace its ageing wastewater pumping stations at Brompton Road and Stricklands Glen.

The work is part of the latest phase of a wider multi-million-pound investment to improve water quality along the North Down coast.

The scheme, which will get underway in April, will also involve the upgrade of the associated sewerage network to help prevent out-of-sewer flooding in the future.

Some preliminary work has recently been undertaken to prepare the sites for construction - in agreement with Ards and North Down Borough Council, the coastal path will temporarily be diverted away from both sites for health and safety reasons.

When complete, the project will provide additional stormwater storage during periods of heavy rain, reduce the likelihood of out of sewer flooding and improve the bathing water quality along the North Down coastline.

NI Water’s contractor BSG Civil Engineering will undertake the essential sewerage improvement works.
