Severn Trent has started work on a major £29 million investment in Birmingham where it will be replacing water pipes across the city over the next four years.
The company will in total replace 170 km of pipes over a series of projects, making sure its network is in best condition providing Birmingham with a reliable water supply to serve the city for years to come.
The works began last week in Handsworth, where the water company is investing £2 million replacing over 5km of pipes.
Timothy Ip from Severn Trent said:
“This is a really exciting project for Birmingham, as we’re going to be completely upgrading the water network in parts across the city, to make sure our network is in the best possible condition.
“We know how important having a reliable supply is, so by replacing the older pipes with new ones, we’re massively reducing the risk of bursts or leaks happening and preventing issues for our customers.”
