A major £6.4 million Scottish Water upgrade to help protect homes in Annan from sewer flooding, is nearing completion - the project will increase the capacity of the sewer network to help protect properties and streets from external and internal flooding.
The investment saw the utility install 525 meters of bigger sewer pipes and a storm water storage tank under the ground in Newington Park. The tank is 25m wide and 12m deep with the capacity to hold 4.3 million litres of water.
Scott Fraser, Scottish Water Corporate Affairs Manager, said:
“We know how much this investment means to residents who experienced internal flooding at times of heavy rainfall, when the sewer network was overwhelmed. This work should significantly reduce the risk of future sewer flooding in Annan.

“We would like to thank the community for their on-going patience during this significant investment for the town. Due to the nature of the construction, this project has been very disruptive, but the locals have been fantastic. The site team worked closely with the community and the local authority to minimize the impact and have been able to leave a positive legacy.”
