Irish Water, in partnership with Meath County Council, is progressing plans to replace over 4 kms of watermains between Navan’s Water Treatment Plant at Liscarton and its storage reservoir at Proudstown.

The strategically important investment will help safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses by increasing the security and resilience of the drinking water supply in Navan and surrounding areas.

The existing 46-year-old asbestos cement rising main between Liscarton Water Treatment Plant and Proudstown Reservoir has been subject to several bursts resulting in a loss of supply to the Navan area.

Surveys of the pipeline route are currently underway and site investigation works are scheduled to commence in the coming weeks. The timeline for the commencement of the pipeline replacement works is subject to planning and statutory approvals - Irish Water in conjunction with Meath Country Council will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

Speaking about the planning of the project, William McKnight, Regional Delivery Lead at Irish Water, said:

“The planning and delivery of this significant project will improve security and resilience for residents and businesses in Navan and the surrounding areas. This project is one of a number of similar projects being prioritised by Irish Water to reduce interruptions or outages to the drinking water supply and facilitate growth for the Navan/Mid Meath and East Meath Water Supply Zones.”
