Following the successful completion of the merger of British Water with the Forum earlier this year, WIF’s Executive Director Peter Drake announced his intention to step down in the Spring after 11 years at the helm.

For over ten years WIF has tackled the challenges facing the UK water sector by providing thought leadership and facilitated collaborative working.

Following the merger in April 2022 the Forum operates as a subsidiary of British Water. with robust governance arrangements in order to protect its independence and neutrality.

British Water said the unique and influential role provides the opportunity to shape the direction and performance of the water sector by convening key players to have conversations which would not otherwise happen.

British Water is looking for potential candidates with the ability to run and promote WIF for the benefit of British Water’s members and the wider water sector.

With the support of a small team and reporting to the Water Industry Forum Chair, the Executive Director will lead and manage all the activities of the within an annual budget agreed with British Water. Key activities include:

  • Identification of water sector challenges for WIF to work on, and the development, organisation and implementation of a programme of events and other activities to tackle them, primarily through the use of a facilitated collaborative, multi-stakeholder process.
  • Development of the overall long-term strategy, vision and delivery plan for WIF
  • Building on and cultivating the existing extensive network of senior contacts across the sector.
  • Reporting on a quarterly and annual basis to British Water.
  • Knowledge of ‘how things work’ in the UK water sector and the main issues affecting it
