Severn Trent is seeking volunteers in Nottinghamshire to plant over 9,000 trees this week as part of its ongoing Commonwealth Forest initiative.

The water company is inviting its customers to help plant 9,400 trees across two days on 22nd and 23rd February at Severn Trent’s 15-acre site at its Stoke Bardolph estate.
This will be the latest forest to be planted as part of Severn Trent’s pledge to create a carbon neutral legacy via a 2,022-acre Commonwealth Forest following Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Richard Eadie, Head of Sustainability at Severn Trent, said:
“We’re passionate about making a positive impact on the communities and the environment where we live and operate, which is why we’d love to see as many customers as possible join us in what promises to be a fun day of tree planting at our Stoke Bardolph estate.
“These new spaces are about creating an incredible legacy where nature can thrive and flourish.
“What’s good for nature is good for water – as the trees mature, they will help store carbon that has been generated from the Games, increasing biodiversity and reducing flood risks.”
Balbir Seimar, who signed up and took part in a planting day in Willenhall earlier this month, said: “It’s a great initiative and it’s wonderful to see Severn Trent taking the lead with tree planting – I was pleased to hear when I found out that they were doing this.
“The forests will also help to oxygenate the air and keep us healthy, which is why I decided to sign up and come along.”
Over 70,000 trees have already been planted at Commonwealth Forest sites in places such as Solihull and Walsall. 72 Tiny Forests were also planted by Severn Trent across the Midlands in 2022 as part of the drive to make Birmingham 2022 the most sustainable Commonwealth Games yet.
The 2,022 acres of Commonwealth Forest across the Midlands will bring urban communities closer to nature, with the Stoke Bardolph site being open to the public via the current footpaths in the area.
