Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Sligo County Council, has announced the completion of a significant upgrade to the sewer network in Rosses Point.

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Coffey Construction Ltd.
The project involved the decommissioning of the current outdated Ballyweelin Wastewater Treatment Plant, construction of a new pumping station at the existing Ballyweelin site, upgrading the Rosses Point Village Pumping Station, construction of an underground stormwater storage tank as well as increasing the capacity of the sewer network. A new pipeline was also constructed between the village and the network in Sligo Town. Now that this vital project has been completed and commissioned, all wastewater from the village will be pumped into the Sligo Town wastewater network for treatment at the main Sligo Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Speaking about the significant investment in Rosses Point, Eunan Canavan, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said:
“We are proud to have delivered this important project for the local community in Rosses Point. This upgraded infrastructure has eliminated all non-compliant sewer over-flows and will improve water quality in bathing waters in the area.
“The area is renowned for its water-based activities such as swimming, kitesurfing, fishing to name a few, and its busy tourism sector. This significant investment will boost the area by enhancing the local environment, protecting health and improve water quality on the bathing waters. It will also ensure that the wastewater infrastructure has capacity to meet future development needs in the area.”
