Severn Trent is preparing to start work on the next phase of its £18 million programme of upgrades at its Yaddlesthorpe Sewage Treatment Works in Lincolnshire.
The project will boost capacity at the site to ensure it is ready to meet the needs of a growing population and the challenges of climate change. So far it has seen the installation and upgrading of equipment on the site and this latest phase will move the point at which treated water is put back into the environment from Bottesford Beck to the larger River Trent.
Yesterday the company held a public drop-in session about the scheme.
Timothy Ip, Community Communications Manager at Severn Trent said:
“To make sure the site is operating as efficiently as possible, and to make sure we’re ready for future demand, we’re taking the proactive steps to upgrade the Yaddlesthorpe Sewage Treatment Works.
“As well as boosting capacity and making sure that our operations are in top condition, we will be transferring the treated, recycled water to the River Trent rather than Bottesford Beck. While the water that leaves our works has been through our rigorous treatment process, it may contain traces of chemicals, and by relocating the outfall to a larger watercourse we’re able to offset the impact, no matter how small they might be.”
Severn Trent is also preparing to start work on an £8.5 million treatment works upgrade to improve river health around Doncaster.
The project – which will kick off on Monday 17th June – will see sewage treatment moved from the current Finningley Treatment Works to the nearby Branton site.
A new pumping station will be built at Finningley, and a three mile pipeline installed to connect to the Branton Sewage Treatment Works. The project is due for completion by May 2025.
