Uisce Éireann has started work this month on the Crodaun Wastewater Network Upgrade, an important project that will significantly enhance wastewater capacity and support future growth and development in Celbridge.

The project involves installing over 2 kilometres of new wastewater pipeline between the existing Castletown Wastewater Pumping Station and Crodaun, via Castletown Estate, Castletown Drive and the R405 Maynooth Road.

Delivered as part of Uisce Éireann’s national Growth and Development Programme, and representing an investment of €8.5 million, the project will provide the required capacity to enable the potential delivery of over 900 new homes in the community. The upgrades will strengthen performance in the existing network, reduce the risk of sewer overflows and ensure the infrastructure can meet the needs of a growing community.

Welcoming the commencement of the works, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD said:

“The delivery of essential wastewater infrastructure is fundamental to meeting our housing targets as reflected in our new Housing Action Plan, ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities’ and through record investment in the water sector. This project will provide critical capacity to enable new homes and serve the needs of the community.”

Speaking on behalf of Uisce Éireann, Programme Manager Ciaran Ryan highlighted the importance of the investment for Celbridge’s future:

“This upgrade is a key enabler for sustainable development in Celbridge. By increasing capacity in the wastewater network now, we are supporting planned residential development, strengthening the performance of the existing system and ensuring reliable services for both current and future residents.”

To safely facilitate pipeline installation, phased lane and road closures are required.

The project is being delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Coffey Construction and is expected to be completed in early 2027.A
