Southern Water starts final stage of £10 million Hampshire sewer strengthening project

Southern Water is now entering the final stage of its multi-million pound project to strengthen the sewer network in the Ashurst Bridge area near Totton.

This latest phase includes a further £2 million of investment to line a further 430 metres of pipe to improve resilience and reduce the risk of bursts – taking the length of pipe lined to more than 1000 metres in total.

Work on the project began yesterday and is expected to last up to three weeks. During this period, customers will see an increase in tankers with around 30 to 40 being used as the water company manages flows safely while the sewer is taken offline.

The news comes as Southern Water completed the first phase of the project last year, where more than 500m of sewer was lined.

George Taylor, Director of Wastewater Networks at Southern Water, commented:

“This final phase represents a significant milestone in delivering a more robust and reliable sewer network for this Hampshire community.

"The additional investment and lining work will provide long-term protection against bursts and ensure the system is fit for the future.”
