NI Water has announced the completion of a new £3.2 million Wastewater Treatment Works that will improve wastewater services for the community of Monea, outside Enniskillen.
The new wastewater solution for the village is a natural environmentally friendly solution which uses aerated reed beds to treat wastewater effluent to the highest standard.
Getting underway in 2024, the project continued for almost two years and will accomodate increased development in the area well into the future, as well as delivering economic and environmental benefits in the area.

“NI Water is delighted to complete this new natured based wastewater solution for Monea village, which will support future growth and development in the area, as well as providing key environmental benefits such as enhancing the river water quality in the Monea River and Lower Lough Erne.
“We at NI Water are pleased to bring this much-needed investment to the village, providing a modern wastewater facility that will serve the area for many years to come.”
GRAHAM was the main contractor for the project with RPS Tetratech providing project management and technical support.

Other locations where NI Water has constructed nature-based wastewater treatment solutions include Loughries (Co. Down), Stoneyford (Co. Antrim), Clabby, Castle Archdale (both Co. Fermanagh) Ballykelly and Aghanloo (Co. Derry/ Londonderry). Two new sustainable treatment works are also planned for Garrison and Belleek in County Fermanagh as part of the PEACEPLUS-funded WEST project.
