Water industry regulator Ofwat has approved an application by Source for Business Ltd, part of South West Water, for a water supply licence under section 17A of the Water Industry Act 1991.
The licence approval, which came into force on 19 February 2014, represents an important stepping stone for Source for Business Ltd as it prepares for open competition in the business retail market from April 2017. The licence will allow the firm to supply water to large businesses outside the South West Water area.
The licence is a retail authorisation which authorises Source for Business Ltd to use an existing water undertaker’s supply system for the purpose of supplying water to the premises of its own business customers.
Launched as a separate company in 2011 by South West Water, Source for Business already provides water efficiency services and other innovative solutions to business customers, including water efficiency advice, trade effluent management and laboratory services, as well as a range of online billing and account services tailored to suit individual business needs.
Craig Nienaber, Business Development Manager for Safe Access Solutions (SAS) at HUBER Technology, explores why the company is seeing a growing level of interest in its safe access solutions for critical infrastructure providers, including their application in wastewater treatment assets.
