Imtech replaces site SCADA at Thames Water Lightwater STW

Imtech’s systems integration business (Capula Limited) has commissioned a replacement site Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system at Thames Water’s Lightwater Sewage Treatment Works.

The system will monitor and control the site-based assets, gathering performance data from different locations across the site into a central point, allowing Thames Water to see how efficiently certain processes are being performed, whether certain parts require maintenance and so forth.

Completed in December 2013, the project is the first in a programme of site SCADA replacements Imtech is delivering on Thames Water’s behalf, and has seen the implementation of a modern Wonderware platform in place of legacy and/or obsolete systems.

Capula’s Operations Director Mason Hatton commented:

“The Wonderware platform provides Thames Water with the operational benefits of a modern, unified SCADA platform across their portfolio of sites, along with the advantage of support and maintenance cost savings of having a centralised team supporting one common platform”

Capula & Thames Water will now jointly run a ‘lessons learnt’ session associated with the testing and commissioning of the Lightwater site to ensure the continued effective delivery of the site SCADA replacement programme.
