Severn Trent Water completes £2.3m link-up scheme with South Staffs Water

Severn Trent Water has finished a £2.3 million project to help protect the water supply for people in the West Midlands.

The project is the first of its kind for the utility and involves linking one of Severn Trent’s reservoirs with another belonging to South Staffs Water to provide a back-up water supply for customers.

Severn Trent Water’s programme manager, John Tuck, commented:

“Two and a half miles of new water pipes have been installed between Perry Barr reservoir and Barr Beacon reservoir in Walsall. We’ve done this so if there’s a problem with our system, we can re-route water from our neighbouring supplier.  This will mean that customers who might have been without water for a short time should still continue to receive their water supply.  We’ve worked closely with South Staffs Water to carry out this important improvement, which will benefit customers in the long term.”

“Since work was finished in December we’ve been testing the new pipes and are now delighted to see they’re working and that all the hard work has paid off.  This was a very ambitious project and is the first time that we’ve been able to move water from a South Staffs Water reservoir to a Severn Trent one. Working together means that all of our customers can benefit from a more reliable water supply in the future.”
