ENER-G Combined Power is targeting the UK water sector in the run-up to AMP6 with the expansion of its specialist CHP wastewater treatment and biogas team.
The UK company, European market leader in small scale CHP (4kWe to over 10MWe) for the past 30 years, has appointed biofuels experts Martin Wager and Laurence Stephenson.
Martin Wager, who joins ENER-G as Business Development Manager (Biofuels) from Cogenco, has been involved in more than 40 CHP sewage treatment and biofuels generation projects over the past 12 years.
Laurence Stephenson is joining the biogas CHP team as Sales Engineer from sister company ENER-G Natural Power, which specialises in landfill gas generation and bespoke anaerobic digestion (AD) projects.
ENER-G has manufactured, installed and operates in excess of 170 MW of biogas power generation, including wastewater CHP projects for South West Water, Severn Trent Water, Welsh Water, Wessex Water and United Utilities.
The company also designed and built a €2.6 million renewable energy centre at the Budapest wastewater treatment plant in Csepel – part of the Living Danube programme, which is one of Europe’s largest environmental investments.
Martin Wager said:
"As water companies consider their AMP6 investment cycles, CHP from wastewater must be a priority. Such projects provide rapid pay back on investment - usually within 10 to 18 months. Considering that the lifespan of a typical CHP system is 10-15 years, this can provide a significant cash surplus, as well as improving environmental performance.”
Water companies are eligible for feed in tariffs (FiTs) on electricity generated from CHP engines and exported to the grid, while the heat can be used as part of the sewage digestion process. There is also potential for additional income via the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
ENER-G provides a complete package - from design and manufacture of CHP systems - to installation, commissioning and finance - through to maintenance and service via its national engineering team. It also supplies pre-treatment technology required to clean and dry biogas from digestion processes, such as effluent and AD.
