Thames Water has launched a market engagement exercise seeking supply chain input from the wider water sector on the design and manufacture of an innovative Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment system.

The water company is undertaking the early market engagement to inform a potential future procurement for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of a new Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment system
The aim is to gauge market interest, understand current capability, and gather insight from suppliers with relevant expertise in delivering sustainable bioenergy, waste-processing, and resource recovery solutions.
Thames Water says the proposed Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment demo plant will support it in achieving its environmental, waste management, and decarbonisation objectives by converting sewage into renewable energy and potential nutrient products.
The water company is developing its commercial strategy and technical specification for Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment systems and seeking feedback from experienced operators, technology providers, engineering consultants, and integrators with expertise of anaerobic wastewater treatment and wider bioresource sector.
The engagement, which does not formally commence any procurement process, is aiming to:
- Test the level of market capacity and interest in the forthcoming opportunity
- Explore innovative technologies, delivery models, and performance approaches
- Identify potential risks, dependencies, and considerations for project design
- Inform Thames Water's decision making ahead of any formal procurement activity
Suppliers who express interest may be invited to participate in market engagement sessions, questionnaires, or one to one discussions. Thames Water said any feedback received will be used solely to shape its future strategy
Thames Water is inviting interested suppliers who want to access the Market Engagement materials related to the project to complete an online Registration of Interest Form.
Interested organisations are asked to provide heir ompany name, company address (the address of what would be the contracting company entity) and contact details of two people Thames Water can correspond with.
Once the form has been completed and submitted, Thames Water will then send the nominated representatives an invitation to access the water company’s SAP Ariba Sourcing platform, together with an an email with instructions for registering and using the system. Suppliers will also have the opportunity to request further representatives from their company to be granted access to the project once the initial invitation has been sent.
