United Utilities is to put its plans for a £15m reservoir project which will improve water supplies to around 40,000 customers in the Disley area on public display.
Work will start this summer on a two year scheme to replace an underground storage reservoir at Jacksons Edge. United Utilities’ engineers have decided the 100 year old reservoir needs upgrading to make sure customers in the area continue to receive the highest quality water for years to come.
The size of the storage area will also be increased, so more people will be able to be supplied from the tanks. State-of-the-art technology is being used to construct two concrete tanks in Ireland which will be transported into place. This will reduce the duration of the project from three to two years.The tanks will each be 29m by 56m and 6m deep and will be lowered into the existing site of the reservoir. United Utilities will also be building a new pipe from the site to Peak Forest Canal.
A public exhibition is being held next month on 2nd July in Disley to allow people to ask questions and find out more about the project.
